Hadley Sedgwick - the owner, maker & designer behind Hadley Clay Studio
After receiving a BFA from Herron School of Art, I moved South with little more than my kiln, two dogs, and a dream. I set up a workshop and began traveling the local art fair circuit and presenting at national trade shows. As my business grew, I focused attention to online retail and found an opportunity to sell work to people all over the world.
I approach my work primarily as a sculptor rather than a traditional potter. I build everything by hand and rarely use a wheel, which gives my pieces more uniqueness and individuality. Making things from this point of view gives me the freedom to try new techniques and work spontaneously.
I am inspired by my medium. I love pushing the boundaries of ceramics. I incorporate my love for animals, fascination of color, and passion for clay into my work. I find inspiration in my own customers, who often present new ideas in the form of custom orders. When it comes to the products, it’s the stories behind them that inspire.
